Students will:
1. Learn food vocabulary.
2. Learn about the food pyramid.
3. Analyze their diet.
 
Lesson 2: What Should I Eat?
This lesson provides information about healthy diets and teaches students how to ask for and give advice.

3.5.2 Select a balanced diet
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Learn how to ask for and give advice.
2. Understand the impact of diet on weight and health.
 

Lesson 3: Nutrition for Life

This lesson discusses how nutritional needs change throughout our lives and the long-term health benefits of good nutrition.

3.5.2 Select a balanced diet
 
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Understand our special nutritional needs through the life cycle.
2. Become familiar with brochures as a tool for health communication.
 
Lesson 4: What's in the Box?
This lesson teaches students how to interpret nutrition labels. 
 
CASAS Competencies:
1.6.1 Interpret food packaging labels
3.5.1 Interpret nutritional and related information listed on food labels
7.2.3 Make comparisons, differentiating among, sorting, and classifying items, information, or ideas
 
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Learn how to interpret nutrition labels.
2. Learn how to express what is needed from the store.
3. Learn how to make comparisons.
 
Lesson 5: Let's Go to the Store
This lesson teaches students about grocery shopping.
 
CASAS Competencies:
1.1.6 Count, convert, and use coins and currency, and recognize symbols such as ($) and (.)
1.2.1 Interpret advertisements, labels, charts, and price tags in selecting goods and services
1.2.3 Compute discounts
1.3.5 Use coupons to purchase goods and services
0.2.2 Complete a personal information form
 
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Learn how to save money at the store.
2. Learn how to make requests.
 
Lesson 6: The Market
This lesson shares additional information about shopping for food, and provides information about public nutrition programs.

7.2.3 Make comparisons, differentiating among, sorting, and classifying items, information, or ideas
 
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Learn how to communicate politely.
2. Learn about public nutrition programs.
3. Learn how to find information in the phone book.
 
Lesson 7: Home Cooking
This lesson presents healthy recipes and discusses preparing food at home.
 
CASAS Competencies:
1.1.1 Interpret recipes
1.1.5 Interpret temperatures
8.2.1 Recognize and/or demonstrate meal and snack preparation activities
 
Learning Objectives:
Students will:
1. Learn how to follow and adapt recipes.
2. Learn how to have a healthy kitchen.
