Exalted, debilitated, and combust planets are concepts in Vedic astrology which play an important role in the determination of a horoscope. These are planetary conditions that significantly affect the outcomes of an individual’s horoscope. So, let us explore more about this concept of exalted, debilitated, and combust planets in astrology and how it occurs.
Exalted and Debilitated Planets
All planets in the Navagraha, i.e., the nine planets in Vedic astrology, during their transitory motion, keep moving from one sign to the next. Let us see the concept of exalted and debilitated planets.
This happens in a cyclic movement and accounts for their seeds of movement. The journey of each planet starts from Aries and ends at Pisces. The process starts again, and the planet enters Aries again. According to their speed, the Moon is the fastest and completes its transit in twelve signs in less than a month.
Saturn is the slowest in the Navagraha, and it takes about 30 years to complete one cycle from Aries to Pisces. Other planets also have their own speeds. As a planet travels through a sign, these signs become its home for the time being. The characteristics of this sign also impact it in one way or another.
The placement of a planet in its sign of exaltation means that it will expand and thrive there. But it does not tell much about the working nature of the planet. Similarly, the placement of the planet is a sign of debilitation, which means that it will feel restricted and weakened. Thus, when a malefic planet is placed in the most usable sign, it will expand and operate at its maximum strength, hence the word exalted. If a benefic debilitated planet is placed with a strong benefic planet, it will gain considerable strength. The same stands for the debilitation of a planet by a malefic planet.
Combust Planets
When a planet comes very close to the Sun, at more than the safe distance to be maintained, it becomes weaker since the Sun burns out some of its strength. The planet loses some of its strength due to being too close to the Sun. such a planet is called a combust planet. The alphabet ‘c’ is used to depict Such a planet in a horoscope. Now, the minimum distance is different for different planets. Some of the planets also have different degrees of safe distances from the Sun before they combust. This depends on whether they are in forward motion or in retrograde motion.
While a planet loses some of its strength when it combusts, how much strength it may lose depends on many factors in the horoscope. It is not decided only on the basis of combustion. The first factor that decides this is the distance the planet has travelled closer to the Sun. The closer it gets to the Sun after entering a certain minimum distance, the more clouds it becomes.
Takeaway
Understanding these concepts helps predict future events and gain a deeper understanding of the person’s inner strength and challenges. An experienced astrologer can help you tailor your actions to align with the planets in your chart for great success.
